Microsoft Mesh Upgrade to Microsoft Teams communication backend in July.

The Microsoft Mesh teething issues that caused "firewall challenges" as Microsoft Mesh used its own unique communications infrastructure till July 2025. 

As of July , Mesh uses the Microsoft Teams communication infrastructure and protocols , so no more firewall issues, if you have Teams then Microsoft Mesh will work with no firewall tweaks. 

However, That's not all Microsoft Mesh is getting serious upgrades in September and October:-

  • However here are the main changes beyond the firewall frustration fix
  • Whiteboarding for Collaboration is part of Mesh, upgrading the teamwork and brainstorming experience.
  • Guest Access from another domain, means Mesh is no longer and internal tool, guest on any domain can join a Mesh meeting as a guest.
  • The audio experience has been upgraded with true life spatial audio so folk in the oher end of a room sound distant.
  • Project studio bring a host of team working opportunities. 
So now you can use technology to serious upgrade your employee engagement and productivity without the commuting to the office downsides.

That's a number that should grab every CEO's attention, simply because most of them have their personal remuneration linked to share values and company market capitalisation.

These numbers make compelling reading however if you think your company hasn't employee engagement issues read this gallup report from 2024.

The Good news is that the trend is upwards. The bad news 62% not engaged and 1% is worth $46,000+ per employee in company market capitalisation! That makes removing the engagement problem worth $2.85M per company that sits at the average 23% engagement.

And If your are uk based company the numbers are more arresting. The UK has Employee Engagement rates of just 10%.

So the chances are, if you measured employee engagement you'd be troubled. If you don't measure it I'm sure Gallup could advise you where to start. However the key here is "what are you going to do about it?". And how do you fix it fast?

    As of November you can join a Microsoft Mesh Meeting from any domain as a guest
    Exactly as you can with Microsoft Teams, meaning Microsoft Mesh is no longer an internal tool
    Sales and Marketing departments and teams can now use it to competitive advantage, if they are quick.  

 Are there any Technical blockers to using Microsoft Mesh? 

  • Will the company's firewall block Microsoft Mesh Meetings now Microsoft Mesh has a Teams communication infrastructure?

As of July Microsoft added the Teams communication infrastructure to Microsoft Mesh. This effectively removed the firewall issue that some customers were experiencing as if you already have Microsoft Teams, then the Microsoft Mesh communication ports are now one and the same. 

The result no more bespoke firewall settings for Microsoft Mesh, no more issues!
